Preparation:

2. Hang the puzzle on the wall at the last minute so the class doesn't have time to solve it before the game or cover it when you hang it and remove the cover when you are ready to play.
3. Have a dark colored crayon or marker ready.
4. Supply a die to roll to determine who goes first.
5. Print bulletins for everyone.

How to play:

1. Divide the class into 3 teams.
2. Select one person from each team to start. The rest of the team should line up behind the starter.
3. Roll a die to see which team gets the largest number. They get to go first.
4. Explain how to solve the puzzle and uncover it.
5. Let the first person mark in the decoded letter for one blank. Then ask if they know what it says. Of course they don't.
6. Let the first person on the second team fill in a blank.
7. Continue with the first person on the third team, and then start with the second person in the first team. Continue letting different children fill in blanks anywhere on the puzzle until someone can tell you what it says. That team wins. They are the GREAT DECODERS!
8. Reward everyone with their own bulletin to take home. They will redo this puzzle and enjoy figuring out all the others, too.
